Main Content of the Conference
From the start of the new century, the transition of the international system has accelerated, and the Eurasian region has experienced frequent geopolitical tumult. In the new century, Chinaand Russia, as emerging powers, simultaneously have experienced their rise, which affects the international situation and trilateral relations among Russia, Chinaand the United Statesto a great extent. Recently, the conflict in South Ossetia, U.S. intentions to deploy a missile defense system, and other issues arouse attention and concern about the important trilateral relations among Russia, China and the United States and trigger a series of theoretical and practical issues:
How do the long-term tendencies of globalization and the world economy’s cyclical changes affect the transition of the contemporary international system?
How do the diversity of cultures and civilizations, the diversity of institutional (patterns of systems) and development patterns and the pursuit of the guiding role of ideology interact in the contemporary international system?
How can we describe the main features of the international system in the new century? Has the international system entered a "Post-Western Era" yet?
Is the world unipolar, bi-polar, multi-polar, non-polar or something else?
Has a new Cold War started yet? If yes, what are the differences between the old and the new Cold Wars?
How will the traditional interactions of the relations among the great powers, especially Sino-Russian-American trilateral relations affect the future transitions of the international system?
What will be the future role of non-traditional security issues and non-state actors in the international system as new phenomena of the international system in transition?
What is the correlation between transition of the contemporary international system and trilateral relations amongChina,Russiaand theUnited States?
How will the geo-political transition in Eurasia affect the trilateral relations amongChina,Russiaand theUnited States?
What is the relevance between the domestic politics and economy and the trilateral relations amongChina,Russiaand theUnited States?
This Conference is organized by theSchoolofAdvanced Internationaland Area Studies, Center for Russian Studies of East China Normal University, Shanghai Institute for International Studies, andInstituteofWorld Economyand International Relations (IMEMO) ofRussianAcademyof Sciences. The Conference aims to provide a platform for prominent experts to discuss the past, the present situation, and the future of the trilateral relations among China, Russia and the USA from the prospect of modern transitions of the international system, the transformation of Eurasian geopolitics and the relevance between domestic politics and foreign affairs, and to build personal, institutional and cultural ties that will contribute to further strengthening China’s cooperation with the USA and Russia in various fields and across all levels of societies.
